Julie Wignall is living proof of the power of unconventional choices, showing there are many paths that lead to happiness and success. At just 14, she left high school to attend an experimental alternative school in the 1970s, a daring decision that foreshadowed her trailblazing approach to life and work. While many doubted her path, Julie defied expectations, carving out an extraordinary career spanning national politics, international business, the arts, environmental conservation, and visionary leadership.
Julie is one such Firefly herself. Julie learned grassroots organizing by being on the ground floor as the youngest paid member of the Jimmy Carter presidential campaign. She then followed her passion for ocean conservation by studying marine biology, eventually volunteering with the National Aquarium in Washington DC. There her talents were recognized, and she became Director of Programming. She collaborated with and led programs that featured Jacques Cousteau, Jim Fowler head of TVs Wild Kingdom Show, and renowned shark expert Dr. Eugenie Clark. Her acclaimed programs had major impact and led to joint projects with the Smithsonian Institution and major wildlife conservation organizations.
